Welcome to the Rex Stout first edition identification guide.  This site is meant as an aid to book collectors, booksellers, and anyone with an interest in Rex Stout.  I am providing photos from my collection of Rex Stout first editions.  The bulk of the collection is from the publishers Vanguard Press, Farrar and Rinehart, and Viking Press, with Collins Crime Club recently added.  I will attempt to answer all the relevant questions regarding the identification of Rex Stout first editions, and show supporting evidence, and I am willing to answer your questions directly.  I also have an article recently published that is available for download here.

Vanguard Press - I have provided a comparison between a first edition and a later edition for one of the three Vanguard Press titles by Rex Stout (Seed on the Wind), so look at that title if you want to see it.

Farrar and Rinehart - I have provided a comparison between a first edition and a later edition for six titles, Fer-de-Lance, The League of Frightened Men, The Rubber Band, The Hand in the Glove, Too Many Cooks, and Some Buried Caesar, so look at those if you want to see it.

Collins Crime Club - I have provided a comparison between a first edition and a later edition for nine titles, Red Threads, The Broken Vase, Black Orchids, Bad for Business, The Silent Speaker, Murder by the Book, Before Midnight, Champagne for One, and Murder in Style, so look at those if you want to see it.  Also, Some Buried Caesar has an example of a copyright page without a year.

Viking Press -  I have conducted an in-depth comparison between the first edition and the book club editions of each title and showed the relevant differences.  I have found the convential wisdom to be incorrect in most cases and have presented that evidence here for public use.
