This detail page shows several photos of the book to show what a first edition looks like. The images are original photos taken of my personal copy of the first edition book.
Might As Well Be Dead (1956):
- The dustjacket has some unique features:
- The front flap has the price ($2.75) at the top and the colophon and "Viking Press New York" at the bottom.
- The back flap is completely blank on the book club edition.
- The first edition is dark blue cloth with a yellow spine and dark blue lettering.
- The title page has 1956 on it.
- The copyright page has the Library of Congress catalog number and "Published in the USA by Colonial Printing Inc" on it.
- The book cover is completely different, as you can see below.
- I have included an animated GIF file that compares many of the relevant points for a clearer understanding.
- The first edition measures .83" x 5.6" x 8.3"
- The book club edition measures .75" x 5.75" x 8.55"
