This detail page shows several photos of the book to show what a first edition looks like. The images are original photos taken of my personal copy of the first edition book.
A Family Affair (1975):
- The dustjacket has some unique features:
- The front flap is black instead of white and has the price ($5.95) at the top and "0975" at the bottom.
- The back flap is black instead of white and has four lines about Viking Press above the "Printed in USA".
- The back cover of the dustjacket has "The Viking Press/Publishers/New York" and "SBN 670-30611-8".
- The first edition book cover is dark blue with a black spine, with the title and author in gold and Viking in blue.
- The endpapers are black instead of white.
- The copyright page has two lines with the whole Library of Congress catalog information between them and it says "Printed in USA" instead of "Printed in the United States of America."
- I have included an animated GIF file that compares many of the relevant points for a clearer understanding.
- The first edition measures .75" x 5.6" x 8.2"
- The book club edition measures .6" x 5.7" x 8.55"
